No Dreams?

Following directly on from my last post, how come there’s no DVD release of Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams for the UK/Ireland market?

I think that just about every single major Kurosawa film is available on DVD, and I’m not sure if the director is as pigeon-holed in this market as Takeshi Kitano is, so it doesn’t really make much sense that there is no release. It’s definitely another film I’ll have to send some emails about, because this really is an injustice to the film world, or sorely missed, at least from my library of films.

Without a doubt it’s a stunning film, both visually and story wise, and I think it’s one of those films that deserves a wider audience, perhaps being overshadowed somewhat by the likes of The Seven Samurai, but just an absolutely captivating experience. Personally, I missed the start of the film when I’ve seen it, so I really do lament the lack of a DVD. Very influential and you can really see the mark on Takeshi Kitano’s Dolls.
